Kalmar
The Kalmar company was founded on Nelcon BV from the Netherlands, which was founded in 1883. Kalmar now belongs to the Cargotec group of companies, which has its German headquarters in Hamburg. Kalmar offers loading solutions and services for ports, terminals, distribution centers and heavy industry. Since 1999 they have also been manufacturing forklift trucks which are primarily designed for high loads of up to 60 tons. Kalmar is a pioneer in terminal automation and energy-efficient container handling. Every fourth container at a terminal around the world is handled by a Kalmar machine. In the 1940s, Kalmar developed the first straddle carrier for industry and in the 1970s the first RoRo tractor. To meet the need for more efficient container handling, Kalmar launched the first generation of reachstackers in the 1980s and, a decade later, the first forklift truck to operate on demanding terrain.
